New Smart Hybrid Drive

Smart’s advanced new mbh micro hybrid drive technology is here – and it’s made the smart even more economical and tax-friendly than ever.

Smart’s incredible environmental credentials have just become even greener. The arrival of the mhd micro hybrid drive technology- now fitted as standard on all normally aspirated petrol engines the pure, pulse and passions coupe and cabrio model lines – boosts fuel economy by up to 29% and slashes CO2 emissions by up to 9%.

The mhd system uses an advanced start-stop system that shuts down the engine under braking, at standstill and speed drops below 5mph. The moment the brake pedal is released, the engine fires silently and smoothly into life and smart fortwo’s automated manual transmission engages first gear instant acceleration.

The result is a significant reduction in fuel consumption and emissions- particularly in urban driving. Compared to the standard smart, the mhd’s start-stop technology results in a fuel saving of up to 29% in urban settings and 11% for combined urban and extra-urban driving.

“With four out of every five smart cars sold now fitted with mhd, our range now offers unbeatable economy and tax savings for the cost-conscious fleet manager” explains smart product executive Andrew Gellatly. “The current smart range offers the perfect answer to the current spiralling costs of fuel.” The mhd will become standard across the entire smart petrol range when it is fitted to the turbo charged petrol powered models next year.

As well as urban-friendly polycarbonate body panels that render city scuffs and scrapes all but invisible and don’t require expensive re-sprays, the smart comes fitted with a raft of standard safety features including its award winning Tridion safety cell, latest generation ESP, ABS with EBD and twin front airbags.

Other standard features include automated hill start assist, keyless entry, RDA radio and CD audio system, electric release tailgate and projector beam headlamps, the option of big car luxury accessories like satellite navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, leather upholstery and additionalairbags.
